BRC is the leading trade association for retailers in the UK. The BRC developed and introduced the BRC Food Technical Standard in 1998.  BRC Global Standards were developed as a quality standard for pack houses supplying fruit to supermarkets in the UK and Europe. These standards are used to assist retailers and brand owners produce food products of a consistent safety and quality. Under EU food Law, retailers and brand owners have a legal responsibility for their brands.

Most European and global supermarkets require BRC certification as a condition of supply.
