GLOBALGAP is a private sector body that sets voluntary standards for the certification of agricultural products. The GLOBALGAP standard is widely regarded as the global scheme for Good Agricultural Practice (G.A.P.).

Principles of Good Agricultural Practices have been with us since the early 20th Century when the use of un-necessary harsh chemicals turned much of the mid-west United States into a dust bowl and contributed significantly to the Great Depression! Global GAP provides a framework for certification.

It is an accredited scheme for product certification and an Integrated Farm Assurance standard capable of being applied to a wide range of agricultural products. Its primary aim is the assurance that food production on farms is done by minimising harmful environmental impact of farming operations, reducing the use of chemicals and ensuring a responsible approach to worker health and safety. It is a pre-farm gate protocol which means that its jurisdiction stops at the farm gate and does not go beyond.
